EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!
The Alberta Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf has changed their name to the
Association of Sign Language Interpreters of Alberta - ASLIA
We are pleased to announce that the new ASLIA website is now online - www.aslia.ca; and we have a new email address - aslia@aslia.ca.
The changes to incorporate the new name continue to be made to organization documents and logo. The Board has established a goal of announcing the completion of the entire transition at the AVLIC 2012 Conference being hosted in Calgary, July 2012. Until the ASLIA website is completed and online, the Board commits to maintaining the ACRID website. Stay tuned for updates as the name change process continues.
Mission Statement
The Alberta Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf is a provincial association which represents its membership and advances the sign language interpreting profession by promoting the provision of high quality service through the endorsement of ethical practices, standards, and the continuing development of interpreting skills, underlying knowledge and professional growth.
ACRID History Incorporated in 1978, ACRID is a registered, non-profit society whose members are professional sign language interpreters who provide quality interpreting services to hearing, hard of hearing, and Deaf individuals.
Internationally, ACRID is affiliated with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, RID, based in the United States.
Nationally, ACRID is affiliated with the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada, AVLIC, which promotes networking among existing interpreter organizations and nurtures the development of the vibrant interpreting profession. The encouragement, support and active collaboration that we receive from Deaf and Hard of Hearing organizations and individuals contributes immeasurably to every phase of ACRID's work. ACRID currently has members in four countries.
